    |After the exhilaration of the win at Chelsea on Boxing Day came the cold light of day with another home game just two days later. Several managers have complained about the sheer number of games and the impossibility of adequately preparing for and recovering from them.

There were inevitable changes, given the number of games at this time of year, but they were limited to Boufal in for Armstrong, who was on the bench and Ings, who returned in place of Obafemi, who was rested.

The rest of the side remained the same as the one that had comprehensively beaten Chelsea.

Another goal for Danny Ings, already into double figures for the 2019-20 season. A striker in a rich vein of form.

    |A very enjoyable contest, with honours even and a lot to talk about. VAR and a marginal offside led to another goal being disallowed, Another outstanding performance from a visiting keeper and of course, yet another goal for Danny Ings.

The thing that was really striking though was the fact, although the team had played on Boxing Day, the pressing game was very much in evidence throughout. In fact the mistake that led to Ings goal came as a direct result of the pressure on the defenders from Djenepo, Ings and Redmond.

Another VAR decision goes Saints way, when a first 'goal' was chalked off for offside by Zaha

Early in the game Pierre-Emile Højbjerg had his shirt ripped from his back and the referee didn't even speak to the Palace player responsible
