Intro and Team News

|Ralph got the team wrong again today. What an earth was the idea of benching Danny Ings. I know Obafemi scored, but Ings and Long are an effective partnership, not so the Irishman with the youngster. And as for bringing on Vestergaard for Obafemi!!
After the Aston Villa victory James Ward-Prowse remained at right back, in spite of Kyle Walker-Peters recovering from injury. He was on the bench. Will Smallbone remained in JWP's normal midfield position, Sofiane Boufal took Djenepo's place, the young Malian having lost his mother during the week and bafflingly Obafemi took Danny Ings place. Saints top scorer was on the bench. As for the rest, it was a case of 'as you were'.
One of those odd statistical oddities is that Saints are historically rubbish against West Ham and this game did absolutely nothing to buck the trend. Saints were simply awful. The second goal was comical, a real howler from McCarthy and we never looked likely to get back into the game after that.
JWP was found out today, he is a very good midfielder, but only an emergency right back
